MythicMay Creatures 4
Fourth batch of drawings from the MythicMay challenge by Audre Schutte that I'm participating. I'm going for a more naturalistic look in my interpretations, trying to think of what kind of creature could inspire the myths and folktales that are told of them.
Ankou is a servant of death said to have created from either the first or the last person to die in a graveyard. It's typically described as a ghostly/skeletal man with a scythe, cloak and a hat, but I thought it'd be much more fun to make a monster bat.
eiLian is a wind god from Chinese mythology. It's described as having a head of a sparrow, horns of a bull, body and legs of a stag, leopard spots and the tail of a serpent. It once failed a coup against its father and was exiled to a mountain top.
In Russian folklore #Morozko is a frost-demon and sometimes a god of death. He appears as an old man but I'm still adamant about now drawing humanoids so have a bear, inspired by speculation that legends such as yeti are actually prehistoric bear remains.
#Yaquaru is a creature described as a donkey-sized river otter with a long snout, fangs/tusks, woolly fur and sometimes five eyes. I just thought of proto whales, they're such strange creatures. Their nose could just as well be seen as a fifth eye.
Fenrir is a giant wolf from the Norse mythology, child of Loki and Angboda who was bound with a special rope but who is destined to escape upon Ragnarök.
