MythicMay Creatures 2

Second batch of drawings from the MythicMay challenge by Audre Schutte that I'm participating. I'm going for a more naturalistic look in my interpretations, trying to think of what kind of creature could inspire the myths and folktales that are told of them.

Ladon is the hundred-headed serpent from Greek mythology who guarded the tree of golden apples. As I started thinking about a hundred-headed monster I decided it would look close enough to a tree, ditched the actual tree and made Ladon a tree/serpent.

The Bake Kujira are ghosts of whales killed by people, lurking in the Sea of Japan. I was inspired by bioluminescence and transparent deep sea fish, I think they make great spectral creatures.

Cheeroonear is from the Native Australian People. It's described as a humanoid with a dog head, extremely long arms and hands that drag on the ground. This description made me think of bat anatomy so I based this dude on the flying fox and some thylacine.

In lean times Icelandic mothers would leave their newborn to the harsh elements. These infants would become ghosts that took the appearance of a raven. Their color is the one of the clothes they died wrapped in.

In Chinese folklore people who are greedy in life become E Gui, ghosts that are always hungry, with mouths too small to satiate their hunger. Since I want a more naturalistic look for my interpretations I used some primates for inspiration.
