Mythic May Creatures 6

The last batch of drawings from the MythicMay challenge by Audre Schutte that I participated. I went for a more naturalistic look in my interpretations, trying to think of what kind of creature could inspire the myths and folktales that are told of them.

Leshy is a forest spirit/demon from Slavic mythology and easily one of my favourite myths. I intentionally went for a more beastly design despite Leshy typically being more of a humanoid with animal features.

Ganiagwaheigowa is a giant man-eating hellbear who attacked people who would enter woods alone and tormented them in the underworld. He was eventually slain and his feet were burned so he wouldn't return to life. This one came back as a revenant.

Wakandagi is an aquatic beast from several Native American People. They resemble a combination of serpent and deer, with a long body, powerful swimming tail, antlers and deer legs.

Leyak is a monster from Bali folklore. It appears as a normal human during the day but during night its head detaches, it grows long fangs and tongue and drags the entrails along. I saw a perfect opportunity for an aye-aye inspired design.

Everyone has heard of Mandragora, the demonic root with a humanoid figure with a fatal scream, so I raise you the cross of a naked mole-rat and a star-nosed mole. I can guarantee that she will scream and she will bite if you pull her up from the ground.

Wolpertinger is a Bavarian mythical creature that's a mix of different animals. I enjoy creating hybrid animals so I just used the classic recipe: head of a rabbit, body of a squirrel, wings and feet of a bird and antlers. Or the bony tumor causing virus.
